While tainted isn’t necessarily applicable to all songs used by shows, it’s just as of late I have become unable to listen to a particular song without thinking of a show. What song might you say? Infernal gallop, because when I hear it I can’t help but mouth/think/sing the lyrics to Fighting Foodons which was a staple Saturday cartoon of my younger years. Another example of tainted songs is “We’re not gonna take it” by Twisted Sisters from the movie Corky Romano. Every time I hear that song, the scene where the characters nipples catch fire because he is being electrocuted comes to mind. What are some songs that you associate to shows or movies?

:: Random Thoughts ::

From time to time there are just songs that really strike a chord (no pun) with me. As of lately, this song “Somebody That I Used To Know” has featured some lyrics that I think reflect some of my feelings about some people I used to know. This isn’t directly related to courting relationships, as the song implies, but relations with others in general. Over the years I have either changed how I used to be or these others have drastically changed, or both. There are those who I used to confide in, or would confide in me, and somehow this has changed and is no longer the case. More times than not I find myself out of the circle of information, or told to not inform people.

Below is my much needed update for the course of July - August

         If you’ve read my previous post, you will have been aware that I was expecting a few things in the mail. One of such deliveries, was Doctor Who series 1 - 5 on DVD which arrived on July 12. I was quite excited about finally being able to catch up on all the episodes in the correct order, because every time I watched them on TV I couldn’t tell if I was missing episodes or not (even if it isn’t exactly chronological :P ). An indication about how into the series and the need to catch up is best illustrated with the fact that I watch all of my DVD’s, each seasons specials and the current episodes of series 6 online all in less than a month. To be exact, they arrived on July 12th and I finished all the episodes that are currently out on August 7th (26 days).

         When I wasn’t watching Doctor Who, I was busy planning things with friends and creating a layout for my room. I had moved a while back into a slightly larger room in my house shortly after my sister moved out a few years back. At the time I just mirrored my old room into this new room, just with a little more space to spare. In this time, I had acquired a few fair amount of new things which needed storing. Over time I began to realize that my rooms layout wasn’t really optimized for my living needs. I mean it was cozy and all, but not very accepting of having more than just myself in it. I didn’t buy any new furniture per-say, aside from 2 little ottomans to store my games and peripherals for my PS3 and Xbox 360. I took the time to measure every other piece of furniture and decided that the items that needed to move were:

  • My computer & desk
  • My nightstand
  • My bed
  • My laundry
  • New ottomans

With my redesign successfully completed on July 15th, I was finally able to make full use of my room in regards to having people over to play games, or even to just give me enough arm / leg space to play games on my Kinect.

        Now don’t think I was just locked up in my house all this time, watching Doctor Who and redesigning my house. That was not the case at all, as I briefly mentioned in the above paragraph. I took some time out of this house / room to see friends and just have fun. I saw most, if not all, of the summer blockbusters and various films that came out around then. Of such there was the new Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Captain America, and Harry Potter. All of these blockbusters were really good in their own merits, and I don’t claim any to be better than the rest nor leaps and bounds greater then possible predecessors. These were all in all exactly what I expect of each of them: Suspenseful, Action Packed, very much what I needed with friends I enjoy seeing and spending time with. I also had the privilege of seeing Horrible Bosses with a smaller group of friends, and boy was that such a great movie. The humour of the actors and just the going ons of the movie make me definitely recommend this to anyone who is down for a good laugh.

        Small updates, bear with me here. Bought myself a little pre-school gift, even though I bought myself the dvds and books :P. The purchase I made was more so to help kill time on buses and between classes when I’m not seeing friends. What I’m referring to is my new Nintendo 3DS. I know it may seem gimmicky right now and there isn’t really much out currently for it, I just wanted to get myself it before the price drop. By buying it before the price drop I have gain the ability to get 20 free games. Now this isn’t 20 *NEW* games, but 20 games that are coming to the WiiWare and DS store, leaning more towards classic games for a new generation to play. In any case, I also purchased Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D with the system on July 28th. I had never played the game on my own, always having to play it at someone else’s house because I didn’t own a N64. I entered my first temple on the following day and beat it with great delight.

        Lastly, I registered for my next year of school and even planned an end of summer trip with a few friends. We are all heading down to Toronto at the end of August to attend Fan Expo. It is like Comic Con, E3 and even PAX… just all balled up together. It covers Anime, Comics (they are different), Gaming, Horror and Sci Fi. All of which are big in my books because I love each for their own reasons. So this past month and a bit have been quite busy as you can see. With school starting up again at the beginning of September, and my fitness also beginning just before that, I will be doing my best to have a weekly (if not bi-weekly) update of this. Until then, keep blogging ;)

Summer. The time to get out and enjoy oneself, take in the sun and maybe get a tan. Plan a trip with family or friends and just get out of the ritual onto something new and interesting for a change. That is how most people would spent their summer. Now I’m not saying I am not doing any of these things, I just find myself balancing out some leisure with work and house related things. One of these house related things is respects to redesigning my room to make it more spacious. During this I came across some things from my past: a cast from when I broke my pinky finger 2 weeks before a French exam (did I mention it was on my writing hand), certificate from AeroTech, not to mention some cards from my 16th Birthday. Brought back quite a few memories from when I was younger, going as far back as 10 years. One of my crown jewels of my nostalgic times is some advice that my best friend from high school gave me that I’m going to share with you. The advice given to me was:

“Don’t fuck any 3ft tall nuns, because there aren’t any!!!”

If you take anything from this let it be that you should not forget the past, no matter how bad because you will always have those totems for you to fall back to.
